Max Johnk’s new album, Allweather, is a follow-up to his 2015 album, Lessons of Drought. Johnk employs a back to basics approach and this time leads a group comprised of bass, drums, saxophone, and trombone. The shifting textures of a rhythm section with no chordal instrument and the energetic sounds of two horns provide the listener a refreshing spin on modern jazz composition and improvisation.
Conor Lee will be releasing his debut album, Adapt. Finding inspiration in the flux of his daily social interactions, Lee blends a range of musical influences into his compositions. Consequently, calm moments of introspective piano and washy cymbals can diverge into the eruptive force of distorted guitar and a driving rhythm section. `
